How long have you been in business? Sarah K’s Gourmet opened 6 September 2005. We will be celebrating our 7th anniversary this September.

How long have you lived in the area and where are you from? I grew up in a military family so I’ve lived all over! I spent most of my time in Coloradao and California. I was living in Philadelphia prior to my move to Destin. Our manager, Tiffany Eaves, is the driving force behind our presence at the farmer’s market and she has lived on the Emerald Coast for the past 14 years.

How far do you travel for the market? Our physical store location is in Destin.
What products do you offer? We’ve won the prestigious “Best of the Emerald Coast” award every year since our inception as we are known for our Jumbo Lump Crab Cakes – all crab with no filler – and our chicken salad is a local favorite. In addition to the crab cakes and chicken salad, we offer casseroles, salads, spreads and desserts.

What makes your items special or unique? Our crab cakes are made with jumbo lump crab meat and no filler. We were recently recognized by Taste of Home Magazine as one of the top five destinations in the United States for crab cakes.

Is there anything new on the horizon? New products, seasonal items or specials?  We are looking at expanding to various farmers markets during the summer season. We have a menu that changes daily to incorporate seasonal vegetables and fresh catches so there’s always something new at Sarah K’s!

How long have you been in business? I opened my doors on March 6th, 2006.

How long have you lived in the area and where are you from?

I’ve lived in the area three times in my life: The first time, in Destin proper, in the mid sixties; the second in Destin and Miramar Beach, in the early 80s; and I moved to Seagrove Beach in fall of 2004, and now live in Point Washington. I’ve moved a lot in my life, and don’t really consider myself “from” anywhere!

My lifelong love of cooking lured me out of my first career in the software biz into culinary school at the tender age of, well, never mind. After graduating from The French Culinary Institute (which received The Award of Excellence for 2006 by the International Association of Culinary Professionals) in New York City, I spent eighteen months in Paris completing an apprenticeship at a Michelin starred restaurant and working on a book about my experiences as a cook in a foreign land.

More than a little bit of that eighteen months was spent traveling throughout Europe. My primary culinary interests are the cuisines of the Mediterranean that include the healthful, bold flavors of Italy, Spain, France and North Africa. I also make a mean Mac&Cheese.

Almost six years ago, March of 2006, Dine by Design Catering opened its doors in Santa Rosa Beach. And ever since, we’ve been busy catering from Pensacola to St. George Island, though most of our work takes place along beautiful Scenic 30A, in South Walton County.

In the intervening years, I’ve been fortunate enough to work with some fabulous people, from photographers, wedding planners, florists, to my clients, the brides, grooms, and – that most put-upon creature – the mother of the bride!

Every day that goes by confirms for me how remarkably suited I am for this work, and how delighted I am with the decision to leave the biz world and slip into the creative, challenging and soul-satisfying world of feeding people. I look forward to at least another half dozen years doing the very same thing.

How far do you travel for the market? 7.5 miles

What products do you offer? We offer a variety of prepared foods, including our world famous Crab Cakes with Remoulade Sauce, Crab Dip, Artichoke Parmesan Dip, Shrimp Salad and Fried Green Tomatoes.

What makes your items special or unique? We cook from scratch, using fresh ingredients and local items as much as possible. Dine by Design Catering also features a staff with many diverse culinary and service backgrounds, which adds to the strength of not only our food, but the experience that we offer.

Is there anything new on the horizon? New products, seasonal items or specials? We’re in our infancy at the Seaside Farmers’ Market, so we’re still in the process of developing our menus. It’s absolutely our intent and desire to serve food that’s seasonal, and we’ll just have to see how people respond to us to know what to offer going forward. I already know our current offerings are a success!
